Research

  Scientific Activities

The research activity is focused on

Development of controlled release from oral dosage forms
The research is concerning the development of swellable matrices obtained by direct compaction of powder mixtures. The matrix formulation is to be assessed to obtain both the desired drug availability and the tablet suitable technological characteristics. Drug availability is tested by evaluation of its dissolution performance in different conditions and the tablet technological characteristics are determined by different tests (crushing strength, friability, etc.). The study is focused on the effect both of the excipients and of the medium composition on the course and mechanism of drug dissolution from the matrix.

Development of galenic preparations for galenic clinic
To meet clinic requirements for individual therapeutic needings the study of galenic dosage forms is carried out to develop both semisolid ointments for topical administration and liquid or solid dosage forms fro oral administration. In any case, the research is focused on the development of suitable formulations taking into account the desired drug availability, the technological characteristics and stability of the designed formulation.

Studies on suppositories
The research activity is focused on the development of formulations using surfactants. In particular, the effects of surfactants on drug availability and on the release mechanisms are evaluated, based on tensiometric and rheological methods.

Studies on pharmaceutical legislation
In addition to research activities studies are carried out about Italian and European legislation on pharmaceutical topics.

  Technical expertise

  • formulation of solids, semisolids
  • technological testing of powders and solid dosage forms (powders flowability, tablets crushing strength, friability)
  • drug availability from solid dosage forms (disaggregation, dissolution testing in different conditions from tablets, ointments and suppositories)
  • tableting
  • viscosity of liquid and semisolid fluids
